Here’s mine. Sloppy. =)
——————-
Where I’m From
the overheating computer after a good, full day of playing World of Warcraft
go-lean vanilla protein shake and Trader Joe’s Better Than Peanut Butter
colorful
highs and lows. Repetitive. Fun. Quiet. Unstable.
We had three homes until my parents found the one they decided to own.
the tree outside the house where we got our first dog,
the tree I got my dragonfly spinner Barbie stuck in
it had its own roots and could see into our lives.
I am from computer games and gymnastics mats,
from Reynolds and Ray.
I am from suppression
and laughter,
and from love,
from rage.
I am from “Jesus died for you, the least you can do is come to church for an hour on Sundays.”
I am from Genevieve and Vera,
from boxed mac and cheese and broccoli,
from death,
and from poverty.
the intense belief in magic.
I am from those moments—
laughter, rage, love, and magic.
I am from all of it.
